Despite Hugh Jackman’s acclaimed role as Wolverine having come to end earlier this year with Logan, the actor is by no means out of the spotlight. Jackman will appear next as the renowned showman P.T. Barnum in The Greatest Showman. The musical follows Barnum’s epic rise to international stardom and fame, and will obviously do so in spectacular fashion. 20th Century Fox has just given us the first footage.
The film looks to be incorporating a similar style from musicals such as Les Miserables (2013) and maybe even Moulin Rouge. But either way, the footage showcases a visually breathtaking movie, particularly anything involving the musical sequences. What makes this movie even more exciting is the phemomenal cast alongside Jackman. The Greatest Showman also stars Zac Efron (Baywatch), Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation), and pop sensation Zendaya.
What will also be interesting to see is how director Michael Gracey handles his feature debut. He definitely has help on multiple fronts – especially being that the script is co-written by Mean Girls and Beauty and the Beast (2017) director Bill Condon. So while it’s not a sure bet for success, Gracey seems to be heading in the right direction.
Unfortunately the film doesn’t open until Christmas Day, so musical fans still have a long wait ahead of them. But in the meantime, check out the first trailer below.
The Greatest Showman opens December 25th, 2017.
